The American Bar Association (ABA) provides an annual Legal Opportunity Scholarship to first-year law students. It aims to encourage racial and ethnic minority students and offer financial assistance for them to attend and complete their legal education. Under the program, the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship provides $15,000 of financial aid to 20 – 25 incoming diverse law students over their three years in law school.

Eligibility Criteria:
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Must be a member of a minority racial and/or ethnic group such as Black, Hispanic, Alaska Tribe, Native North American, or Pacific Islander.
- Must be a Graduate – Postgraduate in United States.
- Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) at their undergraduate institution.

Selection Process:
A committee of ABA members will consider the scholarship based on their financial need, personal, family, and educational backgrounds; personal statement, and involvement in community service activities.
