The Ford Foundation started the Diversity Advancement Scholarship in 1970 after civil rights pioneer Whitney Young Jr. urged architects. The Architects Foundation will offer a multi-year scholarship of up to $20,000 for attracting, inspiring, and investing in the next generation of architects.

Eligibility Criteria:
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be a senior high school student planning to enroll in a NAAB-accredited architecture degree program;
- Must be a rising second-year college student in a NAAB-accredited architecture degree program;
- Must be a technical school or community college student who has completed high school or its equivalent and intends to transfer to an NAAB-accredited architecture program;
- Must be a student in the last year of any four-year undergraduate program (B.A. or B.S.) and planning to enroll in a NAAB-accredited graduate degree program.

Application Process:
Here’s what you must submit besides your application.
- Essay
- A professional resume
- Recommendation letters
- Two letters of recommendation
- A portfolio (3-5 creative works, does not have to be architecture-specific)
Answers to three short answer questions (300 words each):
- What influenced you to become an architect?
- How do you view the potential of architecture to improve communities?
- Describe a situation in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time
