Herbert Lehman Education Fund Scholarship 2025

The Herbert Lehman Education Fund is a scholarship that is offered to qualified, outstanding undergraduate and law school students. The award is named after the former Governor and United States Senator from New York in recognition of his integrity, courage, and persistence on behalf of numerous civil rights causes. Students must complete their Applications for undergraduate scholarships by April 1, 2025. Applications for law school students must be completed by May 1, 2025.

Herbert Lehman Education Fund Scholarship – Overview

Eligibility Criteria:

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

• Must be a graduating high school senior, a first-year student in an accredited four-year college, or a student transferring into an accredited four-year college.
• Must have U.S. Citizenship.

Application Process:

Here’s what you must submit besides your application.

• Completed scholarship application form;
• A copy of the acceptance letter to the college you will attend;
• Two recommendation letters;
• Resume;
• A copy of your current school transcript (finalists will be required to submit an official transcript);
• A personal statement;
• An essay;
• A copy of your SAT and/or ACT test scores; and
• A copy of your Student Aid Report (FAFSA Form).

Selection Process:

The Judges will assess the applications based on a combination of their GPA, test scores, commitment to racial and economic equality, their essay, and what recommenders say about them.
