Jim Sanders Media and Leadership scholarship is offered in honor of Jim Sanders, aimed at supporting the leaders of today and tomorrow among the California State University student population, who have an interest in journalism, media, or communication.

Jim Sanders Media and Leadership Scholarship – Overview

Eligibility Criteria:

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

• Must have an interest in journalism, media, or communication.
• Must aspire to a career in media, but can be interested in any aspect of the industry including engineering, sales, production (audio, video and sound editing, etc.), graphic design, human resources, etc.
• Must have a Required GPA: 4.0
• Must be currently enrolled or entering the first semester as a student at a California State University campus and must remain an enrolled student during the scholarship period.
• Must show current leadership qualities or the desire to be a leader in journalism, media or communication.

Application Process:

• Essay
• Grade transcript

Brief Personal Statement (300 word count) that explains why the student wants to pursue a career in journalism, news media, or communication and how they perceive themselves as a leader (career interest can be in any aspect of the industry including engineering, sales, production (audio, video and sound editing, etc.), graphic design, human resources, etc.)

Selection Process:

The committee will select applicants based on their interest in pursuing a career in journalism, media, or communication and the leadership qualities they possess.
