Every year, the Jon Borowicz Memorial Scholarship is offered to talented high school students to perform with a symphony orchestra, the Vermont Philharmonic, and provides a $500 award. THE JON BOROWICZ MEMORIAL STUDENT MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION is named in honor of the Vermont Philharmonic’s founder, aimed at providing a scholarship grant and an exciting opportunity to perform as a soloist with the orchestra.

Eligibility:
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Must be a high school student, a Vermont resident or a resident living in close proximity to the Vermont border.
- Applicants will have to join the audition for the judges at the Barre Opera House on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the assigned time.
- Must prepare three pieces, of which at least one shall be a movement of a concerto or orchestral work with soloist, suitable for performance with a symphony orchestra. He/she shall be asked to perform at least two of the pieces, one to be chosen by the applicant and one or more by the judges. At least one piece should be played from memory.
- Must appear as soloist with the Vermont Philharmonic at their winter concerts in February, 21& 22, 2026.

Selection Criteria:
The judges will choose applicants as per their strong portfolio, their ability to perform well, and their interest in studying music.
The final decision will be taken by judges, like awarding the full scholarship, only the monetary portion with no performance privilege, or making no award. The Vermont Philharmonic can cancel the competition when they have insufficient applicants to organize a competitive audition and not award the scholarship that year.
