WPCI Hortense Myers Scholarship

The Women’s Press Club of Indiana (WPCI) offers the WPCI Hortense Myers Scholarship in honor of Hortense Myers, who became the first woman to work for the International Press Service in 1942. Hortense P. Myers served as a UPI Statehouse Reporter, a graduate of Butler University, and a 1977 Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame inductee. Under the program, one student will get an award of $1000.

Eligibility Criteria:

Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Must be a Undergraduate in Indiana.

Application Process:

Here’s what you must submit besides your application.

  • The completed application form
  • An official transcript through the fall semester of the junior year.
  • A narrative essay of 150-300 words – the scholarship/award committee about an experience he/she has had that helped influence his/her decision to major in journalism.

Selection Process:

Students will be selected based on the quality of their essays, transcripts, and their recommendation letters.
