Chicago Scots is the longest-running not-for-profit organisation in Chicago. It was established in 1845. It aims to promote Scottish culture in Chicago through cultural events and community outreach to young Scottish Americans interested in studying in Scotland.
The R. Harper Brown Scholarship is offered in the memory of R. Harper Brown, Society Governor, Kinsman of the Year, and co-chair of the Kith and Kin campaign. The program is sponsored by the Chicago Scots. The award will help students reduce the cost of studying at a Scottish university for American students. Under the program, one recipient will receive $10,000.

Eligibility Criteria:
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Must be at least a graduating senior in high school with an acceptance and intention to attend university in Scotland, OR a student at an accredited American college or university looking for a study-abroad experience in Scotland.

Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit their online application forms online and transcripts, letters of recommendation, and cover letters through an email address provided on the scholarship website before June 1st, 2025. After that, no applications will be collected.

- A letter of recommendation from a counselor or mentor.

Selection Process:

- Contribution to the Chicago Scots, Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care and the Scottish-American community.
- Reside within 100 miles of the greater Chicago area.
- Members of the Chicago Scots, their children and grandchildren.
