J.M. Heberlig & B.J. Helterbran established Education Matters – The J.M. Heberlig/B.J. Helterbran Scholarship Fund to address the financial issues that make attaining a valued education difficult for students. The Foundation for Enhancing Communities organised the award to improve the quality of life in the communities through philanthropic activities. In 1920, the Foundation was established in Pennsylvania.
Under the scholarship, two successful applicants will receive aid ranging from $20,000 to $ 60,000. The amount will cover the students’ tuition. Students currently enrolled in a Pennsylvania college or university can apply for this award.

This scholarship will be available for residents of Pennsylvania entering their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of a Pennsylvania college or university and working toward a degree in Art Education or Recreation & Parks. Students can apply for this program if they have declared their major and are attending a 4-year academic institution as a full-time student.

Eligibility Criteria:
Scholarship applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- You must be a resident of Pennsylvania entering their second, third, or fourth year of a college or university in Pennsylvania.
- You must be attending a 4-year academic institution as a full-time student.
- You must be working toward a career in Art Education or Recreation & Parks.
- You must have a minimum GPA of 2.8 overall and 3.0 within the field of study
- Must show Financial need.

Essay
Describe your ideas, goals, interests, experiences, and plans as they relate to your intent to pursue a career in Art Education or Recreation and Parks. The essay must be typed, double-spaced, on plain white paper, and should be no more than two pages long.

Eligible applicants who are showing a passion for a career in art education or recreation and parks will be selected for the award.

Applicants must be enrolled as a full–time student in a four–year program. Studensts will have to provide send an official transcript either through the mail or as a certified PDF emailed from your college or university. The transcript will include a minimum of 3.0 overall and 3.3 in your field. Candidates must be enrolled as a full–time student in a four–year program.
